Literature Text

We are on trial
We are all on trial
Sitting in front of
A faceless audience
And an equally faceless judge
Our offenses are many and varied
Everyone is different
But all are guilty
Guilty of crimes against humanity
Crimes unable to be brought
Before normal courts
Like the football player
Whose abuse caused the suicide
Of a gay classmate
Or the varsity cheerleader
Whose insults drive her so called friend
To cut her wrists at night
And lets not forget
The overbearing parents
Whose ridiculous expectations
Are driving their son to drugs
Just so he can get rid of the stress
As well as the father
Who drinks himself into a stupor
Forcing his daughter to seek
Fatherly affection in the arms of men
Far older than herself
And then there's the politician
Who promises change
But then falls into the same old routine
That we've seen from all of his predecessors
And that's not all
Every single one of us is guilty
But very few of us know our crime
Even so, we all pay the price
And as we watch our faceless jurors file in
We already know their verdict
"Guilty," one says then sits down
As the still faceless judge turns
And tells the assembled crowd
The punishment you will receive
That we all will receive in the end
The Death Penalty
I'm sorry for disappearing for so long but I'm finally back and I intend to post at least once a week from now on. *crosses fingers*

Anyhow, this was going to be one of my poems for my school's poetry slam but I got sick and thus I shall have to wait for the community one next year. =P
